Back in January, we told you that SouthStar Lofts, a large, new mixed-use development from Dranoff Properties, would soon be breaking ground on the northeast corner of Broad & South. Long home to a large but poorly located community garden, this corner will soon be home to eighty-five new rental apartments and over 10,000 sqft of retail space.
As we predicted, work began early this year, with most of the activity taking place underground thus far. We sped by the site the other day, and noticed that the foundation work appears to be finished and the first story has been framed out in steel.
We’d say the building is perhaps nine to twelve months away from completion at this point, but it’s great to finally see progress above grade. We’ll check back here in a few months, perhaps when the framing is finished or when we hear news about any potential retails tenants.
