A couple of days ago, the Mugshots in Manayunk closed its doors after five years. But fear not, coffee lovers! Out of the ashes of the Manayunk location, a new Mugshots will rise at a new location at 1520 Cecil C. Moore Ave., right in the middle of Temple main campus. As you can see, they still have plenty of work to do in the space. As soon as they’re done, it’ll be great news for Temple students and faculty.
The new Mugshots will occupy a corner retail space in the new Beech International Village building, which just opened for tenants just last week. It’s intended for International students and faculty, but is open to anyone who wishes to live there. The building is a dramatic improvement over what occupied that space most recently.
The International Village contains apartment units that range between 500 and 550 sqft. According to the website, 1 bed/1 bath apartments are renting for $1200/mo, and 2 bed/1 bath apartments are renting for $750/mo. We’re assuming that the 2 bedroom units are $750 per person- it just doesn’t make any sense for the two bedrooms to rent for so much less than the one bedroom units. The building was constructed by non-profit development company Beech Interplex, which has done a fair amount of building of both single family homes and commercial buildings in the Cecil B Moore Ave. area.
While the apartments seem small for the money, and the website for the building is almost impossible to navigate, we are glad to see continuing improvements to the Temple area. And if it means we can get some decent coffee over there, all the better.
