In the last year, we’ve covered some fairly significant additions to Cecil B Moore Avenue near Temple. At 19th & Cecil B, next door to a church that was once a cinema, eight units were built recently, with an unfortunate stucco-coated facade. Just a block to the east, twenty units were finished a couple of months ago, on a site that was home to a church that collapsed a couple of years back and was then demolished. And now, it looks like there will soon be another development right between the two.

Eight buildings with twenty units at 18th & Cecil B

We were in the area the other day, and noticed that 1811 Cecil B. Moore Ave., a large vacant lot next to the buildings pictured above, was surrounded by a construction fence. Checking on the L&I Map, we discovered that the property has already been subdivided into five separate building lots. We’d guess that the developer, who purchased the lot back in January for just over $500K, will be constructing multi-unit buildings on this lot, with the plan of renting the apartments to students.

Won't be vacant much longer

With the summer starting to fade and the school year quickly approaching, we’d imagine that the developer isn’t in too much of a hurry to get this project off the ground. Given the nature of the rental business in this area, we would expect that these buildings will be ready for tenants either by June 1st of next year, or perhaps by sometime in August. Hopefully, when the project does get underway, the homes will look more like the new ones to the east than the new ones to the west.
