Back in November, we told you about the upcoming construction of a three story building with a commercial space on the first floor and two apartments above. In the past six months, little has happened at this corner, but a reader tipped us off that construction finally got started at 556 N 11th St. in recent weeks. As you can see in the photo below, a foundation will be poured in the next few days.
A reminder, this construction site sits right near a soon-to-be-developed lot at 1013 Green St. that we told you about a couple of months back, which is finally going to zoning in the next couple of weeks. Across the street, the vacant Independence Press building, which had been listed for over $7M, is currently off the market. Does this mean that this property could be redeveloped in the near future?
And one more thing while we’re pontificating about this area: Does anybody who lives around here know anything about 601 N 11th St.? We’ve seen a ‘For Sale’ sign on this rather large, fairly attractive building for at least a year, and no one seems to be biting. Is the $399,000 list price too high? Or is there something wrong with the building? With that marble facade on the first floor, it could be turned into an interesting commercial space, no?
Update: The Independence Press building is still available, listed by CBRE for $6.9M. Now that you know, why don’t you buy it! C’mon! Please?
