South Kensington is getting some new homes, this time less than a block from the El.
We were passing through the neighborhood yesterday after knocking down a delicious cup of coffee at La Colombe on Frankford Avenue and spied two new homes that have appeared on the 100 block of Turner Street. This parcel was most recently an empty lot, and before that a blighted warehouse took up half of the property. It was demolished in the last couple years.
As we mentioned and as you can see in the image above, two homes are currently under construction, but three more foundations sit to the west, waiting for their moment in the sun. The project is called Turner Court and BMK Homes are the developers behind this project. We've seen a bunch of projects from them in this neck of the woods, also in Fishtown and East Kensington. As seems to be the case with all their projects, KJO Architecture has done the design work.
Two of the homes are currently listed for sale, one for just shy of $400K and the other for just under $450K. We have to assume that the more expensive model is the corner unit which will get a little more square-footage and more natural light. The base design includes 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and about 2,000 sqft of living space. Also, as the rendering suggests, there's a drive-aisle behind the homes, so all of the units will have private parking. Nice work by the developers, sniffing out this corner parcel.
These homes will have plenty going for them- easy access to public transportation, a short walk to Frankford Avenue, and the potential for increased value as the neighborhood improves, to name a few. But perhaps the best thing about these homes will be the view. One of our favorite buildings is right across the street, a former firehouse that resembles a castle.
We can certainly think of worse buildings to see out your front door.
