In yet another case of a business opening up across the street from another business that does virtually the same thing, Palm Tree Market will soon be opening at 2nd and Christian Sts., in the space that was formerly occupied by Hot Waves Salon.
Preparing for the new market, the facade has been altered slightly to add a handicap accessible ramp. Unfortunately, this meant eliminating the classic corner column that you see around town in many corner retail spaces. It’s a shame to remove that historical element to the building, but at least it was for a good reason- so that everyone can have access to the new store.
For those not familiar with Palm Tree Market, it’s a gourmet market and upscale deli that currently satisfies the crowds in Northern Liberties at its only location, on 2nd St. just north of Fairmount Ave. Though the breakfast and coffee crowd can currently get their fix across the street at Philly Java Co., and grab-n-go needs are satisfied at the 24/7 Food Mart on the other side of Christian St., Palm Tree Market will definitely fill a need for the neighborhood. Their extensive lunch menu and high end product selection will draw crowds from surrounding blocks, and will probably command a good amount of business from commuters heading down Christian St. to get to I-95. No exact word on the opening date just yet, but from the looks of it, we won’t have to wait much longer.
