On a tip from a reader, we trekked out to the northwest corner of Fifth and Washington Avenue to see what trouble we could get into. What we found when we arrived was that the man who was walking away from the site as we were walking up was the owner, and that we walk way too slow. The information we could pull out of the general contractor (who was as scared of sharing information with us as the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office was of Deloitte) is that the corner lot will be first-floor retail spots and the second, third and fourth floor will be apartments. The steal contractor wouldn’t give us any more information and we didn’t speak Spanish, so the extent of our research ends there. We will be back this week to see if we can catch the owner and get more information for you.
