The intersection of Moyamensing Avenue and Wharton Street is one of the more satisfying in Pennsport, with the unique looking Caffe Valentino on the northwest corner and the wonderful and still newish Pennsport Beer Boutique on the southwest corner. We were making a run to Target yesterday and passed this intersection, and happened to notice a huge banner at the northeast corner advertising a new project. Until now, there's been a vacant lot and a one-story garage at this corner. But that's about to change.
According to Pennsporter, Rock Construction is working on a project called the Monarch Townhomes, which will mean five big new homes at this corner. These developers are the same folks that built the Metropolis Homes, the large residential project just a block away at 2nd & Wharton. The four-story homes look like they'll be pretty nice, and each will include 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and 2 car parking. The rendering from the listing looks much nicer than the images on the banner.
The homes are listed at $650K, which will make them some of the most expensive new construction homes in Pennsport. Will people be willing to pay those prices? We shall see.
