In fits and starts, the 100 blocks of Alter and Ellsworth Streets have been under construction for over a decade. It started around 2006, when five homes went up on Alter and another five rose on Ellsworth. Then there was nothing for a few years. Over the last couple of years though, we've seen additional infill construction. New homes have gone up on Ellsworth Street, finishing the row. A mixed-use building containing a salon arrived on 2nd Street. And last summer, we told you about three new homes on Alter Street.
As you can see above, there's nothing left to do on Ellsworth Street, and the homes on the south side of Alter Street are finished as well. New are the two homes still under construction on 2nd Street, next to the building that houses Next Salon Plus. Architecturally, these homes are almost identical to the Alter Street homes. And think of how easy it will be to get a haircut nearby! When these homes are done, it will mark the end of construction for this immediate area, with one exception.
Two and a half years have passed since we first brought these foundations on the north side of the 100 block of Alter Street to your attention. Sadly, pretty much nothing has changed with them since, to our knowledge. So the block, while it's progressed considerably in the last couple of years, remains incomplete for now and for the foreseeable future. C'mon, can't somebody buy and develop these lots already?!?
