Go to the intersection of 9th & Passyunk, and you’ll bear witness to today’s chapter in the decades-long stand-off between Pat’s and Geno’s. Countless families have been torn apart by this conflict. Brother has strongly disagreed with brother. Sister has loudly yelled across the street at sister. Others have opted out, choosing Jim’s or Tony Luke’s for their cheesesteak needs. And a select few have drifted toward vegetarianism, simply to avoid taking sides.
For those who have supported Pat’s since 1930, we have a goofy and way-too-expensive opportunity to share with you today. A reader sent us a link recently to an eBay auction for a fifty-year-old wrought iron gateway that features the Pat’s Steaks crown.
Standing 9’8″ tall and probably weighing about a ton, this thing originally served as the entranceway to an outdoor entertainment area at the Olivieri’s home in Green Hill Farms. The seller on eBay lives nearby and attempted to purchase the home recently, but lost out to another buyer. The home’s new owners removed many of the its original details, though the eBay seller was able to acquire the gateway and a couple of other items from the house. And now, this thing could be yours! What you would do with it, of course, is your business.
There are four days left in the auction, and the price starts at $3,200. Happy bidding!
