It’s been nearly two years since we last visited 1526 S. 10th St., a one-story building with dreams of a taller life. When we were here the last time, the building was only one story tall, with a tarp on the roof.  But plans were in the works for a three story addition, and a conversion into a large home.

In the past

It’s been radio silence on this property for months on end, but just recently a reader gave us the heads up that something was finally happening on this site.

Framing out the addition

We were expecting three new stories, but it seems that the building is only getting two new ones. Still, plans are for four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and parking in this newly expanded building, according to an old listing. Interestingly, the owners tried to sell the property for most of the last year, but didn’t find any takers at a list price of $275K. We’ll be interested to see what the final product looks like, and will particularly want to see how the old bricks, the newish cinderblocks, and the facade on the addition all interact.

Across the street

The last time we were here, this commercial space across the street was for rent, and the sign on the building suggests it still is. But we’ve found out that the owners have leased the space. Does anybody know who’s taking it over? Do folks in the neighborhood harbor hopes for a certain kind of business in this location?
