1352-56 E. Passyunk Ave. seems like a winning location but it's been vacant for about a year and a half, if memory serves. A Rita's franchise occupied this space for roughly half a dozen years, and we vaguely remember when Nifty Fifty's had a nice run here. And we recall a number of years between diner and water ice, when there was nothing here at all. Now, it seems that the space might have a new tenant coming soon.
A reader tipped us off today about Work in Progress signs in the window and as you can see in the photo above, that's very much the case. Trying to find a clue about what's happening here, we took a look at the L&I Map and only discovered an alteration permit for drywall repairs. So perhaps this means that a new business is coming in here. Or it could mean that the landlords are turning the space into a vanilla box in an effort to attract a tenant. Has anyone heard anything?
As we said earlier, this seems like it should be a very attractive space, given the location. Sure, it's a confusing six-point intersection. But a curb expansion project last year made things safer for pedestrians. It's just a block south of tourist meccas Pat's and Geno's. It's a block to the north of the start of the Passyunk Avenue commercial corridor. And with an Acme, a CVS, and a Dunkin Donuts all steps away, there's no shortage of car and foot traffic. Ooh, and don't forget the reborn Triangle Tavern, that place is pretty sweet too. Try the adult water ice, trust us.
