Speaking of Annin Street, a construction site caught our eye the other day when we were in the Passyunk Square neighborhood. 600 Annin St. was a vacant lot for awhile, and now a new house is rising at this address.
This particular block of Annin dead ends halfway down the block onto a mini block of S. Marshall St., making it fairly easy to miss. Thankfully, the construction is taking place on the corner, which was the reason we saw it in the first place. We don’t typically see a whole lot of new construction in this immediate area, but looking across the street we spotted a couple of homes that have been built in the last five years or so.
With convenient access to Passyunk Avenue as well as the Italian Market, we’ve always been really fond of this neighborhood. Perhaps this project is a sign that additional development could be coming to this area sometime soon. There isn’t a ton of vacant land, but there are numerous ‘grandma houses’ that look like they could benefit from a little rehabbing. Likewise, there are several larger old buildings that could probably be converted into apartments, like the former substation a couple of blocks away.
We’ll keep a closer eye on this neighborhood, and let you know about any other interesting or exciting development news that comes along.
