Last month, we told you about the efforts of the Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corporation to renovate properties on Passyunk Avenue. PARC rehabbed 1840 E Passyunk Ave., turning a T Mobile store into a comic book shop and an apartment. Construction had only just begun at 1911 E Passyunk Ave., another PARC property.
There’s definitely been progress at 1911 E. Passyunk Ave. in the last month and a half, and PARC has had some interest in the retail space from restaurateurs. No lease just yet, however. This space should be even more attractive once Noir, the restaurant replacing the short lived Sticks & Stones, opens next door.
Just yesterday, we learned that PARC has acquired 1537 S. 11th St., right next to the recently renovated “singing fountain.” According to PARC leader Sam Sherman, the ground floor space will be a restaurant, and the upper floors will remain apartments.
Work is expected to begin on the outside of the building in the next week or so, and Sherman expects work on the retail space to commence in May. No news on the restaurant tenant just yet, as the lease is still not finalized. We’re guessing word will get out soon enough, or that many people are already in the know.
Once again, kudos to the people at PARC for doing what your name says and helping revitalize Passyunk Avenue. Any chance you can come to Graduate Hospital, and work your magic on a check cashing place?
