Everyone loves Dog Day Afternoon.
Er, not exactly what we meant.
We're referring, instead, to a fundraising event that took place last year through a partnership between South Philadelphia Association of Dog Owners (SPADO), the Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center (VSEC), and Doggie Style Pets. And they're doing it again! Dog Day Afternoon 2016 will take place on May 15th from 9am to 4pm, and will happen at Columbus Square Park, just like last year.
SPADO is the all-volunteer-run non-profit that helps to maintain the Columbus Squre Park Dog Park at 12th & Reed. Last year's event raised $5K for the renovation of the park, and those plans also include a new dog park. This year, proceeds from the event will help fund temporary fencing for the dog park which will be needed during the renovation (even temporary fences are pricey!). At the event, look for dog-centric vendors, various types of entertainment, and raffles. Oh, and dogs will be allowed off leash on the large field, giving them much more space than on a typical day at the dog park. Food trucks will also be part of the event, 'natch. 250 humans and 184 dogs participated last year, the organizers are hoping for even better turnout this time around.
