We were buzzing our way through Northern Liberties the other day after enjoying some tasty free tacos at Union Taco’s grand opening, when we stumbled upon a new construction site. 427 Poplar St. has, for years, been an overgrown vacant lot. But soon enough, it will turn into a new home.
Earlier this year, NLNA gave their blessing to developer Chris Sincavage to merge part of the lot next door with this lot, and create a single open air parking spot on Lawrence Street to accompany a new home. As you can see, ground has been broken and formwork is in the ground in preparation for foundations.
Yes folks, this just represents one more vacant lot in this neighborhood that’s disappearing. As you can imagine, lots are increasingly becoming an endangered species in Northern Liberties, which is one of the reasons we’re seeing so much development push north into South Kensington and west into Poplar these days. Nevertheless, the development train is still chugging along in this neighborhood, as our consistent posting and the numerous NLNA zoning meetings would indicate. Though lots are becoming more precious, we don’t see development slowing down around here for quite some time.
