A couple days ago, after we enjoyed a coffee at One Shot and after we noticed the finished construction next door which is now home to DnA Salon, we headed south down American Street and spied a little more construction activity. At 1004 N. American St., a kind of unfortunate addition has appeared, with a slightly different color brick on the third floor facade giving it away. At 1006 N. American St., there's a new home that's replaced a vacant lot that's on the skinny side.

In the past

Shell is gone, as is the vacant lot

Crossing Wildey St., there's more construction to see. 966 N. American St. is a relatively new home on a parcel that was previously vacant. As you can see, it isn't such a deep house. Next door, at 964 N. American St., another vacant lot is on the outs and there's yet another home on the way, with form work in the ground. This project went before NLNA last summer, and will eventually rise four stories. This additional height is crucial because the lot isn't even twenty-five feet deep. And considering it's less than fifteen feet wide, the height becomes even more important. Remember, we went over all of this several months ago when we first told you about this project.

Newer home and new formwork

Architecturally, the homes pictured on the 1000 block have a more traditional look and the homes on the 900 block have a more contemporary design. We'll keep an eye out for which standard holds true for the home that's just getting started. Our bet is on the modern, but we've been wrong before.
