Back in the summer of 2011, we told you that the Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale would be making a move from their home in a building on the edge of Drexel’s campus to a repurposed warehouse building on the 1500 block of Parrish Street. At the time, it seemed like a nice addition to the eastern end of this up-and-coming neighborhood. But months went by, and nothing seemed to happen.
Just a week ago, CBS reported that the Boys Choir was about to move into their new space at the former headquarters of FOP Lodge 5 at Broad & Spring Garden. But… what about the Parrish Street property that they purchased less than two years ago for $600K? Back on the market, it seems. The property was initially listed for $700K several months ago, and just recently went under contract at a list price of $550K (ugh, losing $100K in two years, yikes). The property is about 10,000 sqft, according to the listing, and could either be used for warehouse space, adapted for residential, or torn down and replaced with single family homes. Check out the interior:
It’s a bummer that the Boys Choir ended up picking another location, though their new space is nearly twice the size and probably in much more finished condition than the warehouse on Parrish. As for the future of this building, we’ll just have to wait and see. The buyers are closing in March, and we’d imagine plans for the property will begin to coming into focus as the weather warms up.
