In May, we told you about two new homes on the way at 1232-34 E. Oxford St., in Fishtown. The two homes were replacing vacant lots on this narrow street, located just a block off of Girard Avenue. The builders for this project are Callahan Ward Oxford LLC, the same guys who built the Four Squared project on 4th Street in Northern Liberties. We were in the area last week, and noticed that there’s been progress at this site, with framing apparently complete.
Clearly, this project is still several months away from being finished, but it’s good to see that things are moving along. Meanwhile, down the street toward Girard, another new home is going up at 1216 E. Oxford St. as we speak. This project comes from FTP Development, who purchased the property over the summer for $65K as a shell. The old home that once stood here (and had some stellar siding, to boot) is no more, and a much larger home is well on its way.
It’s great to see all the infill development that’s taking place in this neighborhood, as vacant land and broken down buildings are replaced with new homes. Considering the commercial explosion on Girard Avenue and Frankford Avenue in recent years, it must be encouraging to local small businesses to see their neighborhood customer bases swell like this. We’ll check back in on this block in a few months when the homes are finished, and see if anything else has popped up in the meantime.
