A reader checked in a couple of weeks ago, and gave us the heads up about two new homes approaching completion across the street from the nearly finished Norris Point homes. 2135 E. Norris St. was previously part of a rather large vacant lot/green space, but has now been appropriated by the development dragon, devouring all the vacant land in its path. We’ve seen BMK Properties, the developers for this project, in this area before, and they’ve again teamed with KJO Architecture for these two homes.
The home fronting Norris Street has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and about 2,000 sqft of living space. It’s already under agreement at a list price of $350K. The home fronting little Burgess Street will have 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and will come in a little smaller at 1,800 sqft of space. It will, however, feature a garage. We’re not sure whether this one is also under contract, but the BMK website would seem to suggest it’s still available.
We’re always glad to see new homes fill in vacant land that’s been sitting for who knows how long. This parcel had been owned by the City since 1989 and would have continued to sit vacant in perpetuity under its stewardship. So many thanks to these developers for stepping in and bringing some new residents to the neighborhood and reducing the vacant land supply at the same time.
On the other side of the coin, it is a bit of a shame to see a large green space shrink down to half the size. The rest of the open space on the corner is owned by Conrail, according to public record. So we’re guessing that it will remain as it is for the foreseeable future. Which makes us wonder why the developers had to go with vinyl siding for the exposed sides of the homes. Not that we’re so fond of stucco, but at least that would have allowed for a mural at some point in the future, no?
