Less than two weeks ago, we told you that Mugshots had closed their doors at 2831 W. Girard Ave., representing a rare setback for this recently thriving section of Girard Avenue. At the time, we surmised that the space wouldn’t sit vacant for long, but expressed doubt that another cafe would rush in to take the space, given the presence of two other coffee spots within a few blocks.
Well, we were 50% right.
Today we got an email from property owners MM Partners, indicating that a new tenant has indeed been secured for the space. According to the email, High Point Cafe of Mount Airy will be taking over the space in short order. Look for them to open relatively soon, as they will only be making some minor cosmetic changes to the space before they open. This being their third location, they’ve pretty much got their model in order. They will serve coffee, roasted by them, they’ll serve a line of baked goods, and will make crepes in house.
We also understand that they were the first party to look at the space, and signed on almost immediately. This speaks not only to the attractiveness of the space but also the momentum that we’ve seen on Girard Avenue. We admit we were surprised to see Mugshots go, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to see another business hop in here so quickly.
With such a quick turnaround, we’re now left to wonder what to look for next on Girard. Perhaps someone will finally do something with the former pizza place a few doors down?
