A reader tipped us off about some work going on in the commercial space at the southeast corner of 13th and Carpenter Sts. We vaguely remember a hair salon in this space many moons ago, but it’s been empty for at least the past five years. The building is certainly unique looking, but we’re not feeling the aesthetic.

The reader spoke to a gentleman who identified himself as the owner, who first asked if he was interested in renting the space. When the reader explained that he was just an interested neighbor, the owner said that the corner would be in use very soon, and alluded to a BBQ place opening up in the space, along with outdoor seating. With a park on the horizon a block to the north, a new restaurant would certainly be another fine addition to the neighborhood, especially in a space that’s been empty for so long. Then again, considering the owner’s desire to rent the space to our helpful reader, we’ll believe it when we see it.
