It wasn't so long ago that you could have generously described the corner of 4th & Queen as "not one of the best in the neighborhood." More specifically, there were roughly ten buildings on either side of 4th Street, just south of Queen, that looked like their owners hadn't cared for them very carefully over the years. At the southeast corner was Queen Village Pizza, a business we confess we never patronized due to its lousy curb appeal. The southwest corner was home to a laundromat and a little bodega.
A few years ago, the southeast corner got the renovation treatment, with the old pizza shop moving on and a new pizza shop taking over. The buildings to the south lost their weird shingled awnings and colorful stucco covered over some fading brick. We actually have visited Little Italy 2 at some point in the last couple of years, and the pizza is pretty good.
Meanwhile, the southwest corner has undergone a much more serious transformation. We last visited this corner a little less than two years ago, when construction was just getting started here. Now it looks like it's all finished.
The properties at this corner have been branded as The Revere, a mix of apartments over a corner commercial space. Some of the apartments are occupied, others are listed for rent at prices ranging between $1575 and $2585 per month. As the prices would indicate, the apartments are very nice, with hardwood floors, recessed lights, stainless appliances, and so on. A sign at the corner indicates the MSC Retail has been retained to find a tenant for the 2,000 sqft space, which makes us wonder what kind of tenant will eventually land here. Remember, just a few days ago we were thinking about the success of Hungry Pigeon just a few blocks to the north and we wondered whether Fabric Row could see additional bars and restaurants in the future. This could be a very worthwhile spot for such a tenant, so keep your eyes peeled.
