Over the summer, we told you that L2, a longtime occupant of the corner 22nd & South, was closing its doors. For months, it sat vacant, and we discovered that it was purchased by a developer at the end of last month. Today, we were passing by the building and discovered that it's being cleaned out.
With a new owner in place, but only for a short period of time, we would be hard pressed to suggest that a new tenant has already been found. We'd say it's more likely that the owners are looking to make the space as appealing as possible for future tenants, and that it didn't look so appealing staged as a shuttered restaurant. The kitchen equipment, some of which looks like it goes way back, was being taken out of the property as well.
Perhaps the departing kitchen equipment means that the new owner doesn't want a food use in this space, but that's just speculation. With the incredible growth on South Street West in recent years, we can imagine all kinds of possible businesses opening here, including a restaurant. If you live nearby, what would you like to see appear on this corner? Just don't say ice cream or a pharmacy. South Street West is all set in those departments.
