Over the summer, we learned about plans to completely renovate a gross old garage at 1128 S. 13th St., just south of Washington Avenue. Having lived in the area several years ago, we regularly found ourselves looking about this building, wondering if it would be fixed up at some point. Passing by the other day, we spotted a truck parked outside and wondered whether construction would be getting underway in the near future.
Back in July, according to Passyunk Post, Passyunk Square Civic Association wrote a letter of non-opposition to the project, which is designed by Landmark Architectural Design. The proposal was for four apartments, office space on the first floor, and four parking spots. Check out the rendering:
Pretty nice looking project, no? And a pretty significant improvement over what's there today. Looking at the L&I Map to better understand the permits they applied for, we saw that the ZBA denied the application for this project! So it seems that this project isn't, in fact, getting underway and won't be getting built, uh, ever. Did anyone out there attend the ZBA hearing over the summer? Does anyone know what happened? It seems like a huge shame that the garage will apparently remain in its current unfortunate state for the foreseeable future.
