In Fishtown, a beat up seemingly and vacant garage across the street from Konrad Square Park will soon get a top bunk. In August, the FNA supported plans from developers seeking to build a single-family apartment on top of a preexisting garage at 2206 E Fletcher St. that has certainly been in need of some love.
This location is around the corner from Frankford Avenue. It’s a few minutes away from Rocket Cat Cafe in one direction and Pizza Brain in the other direction. A little farther of a walk is the hustle and bustle of Frankford & Girard, and the Berks or Girard El Stations.
Really, it’s a no brainer for the owners of this property to fix it up. At the corner of this block is a home that was renovated somewhat recently. Next door, another garage recently sold and could be altered sometime soon. And a few blocks away, ten new homes are pretty much finished at Norris Point, plus, there are these two more homes that are almost finished across the street from that development.
These days, FNA is seeing more applications than it ever has, according to zoning chair Matt Karp. Like 15-units that back up to I-95 at Wildey and Oxford, and spots on the East Kensington border being bought up and developed. We’re wondering what will become of the other vacant and bruised buildings in this area, and wonder how long it will be til there aren’t any left.
