About a year and a half ago, we first brought you the news that a vacant lot at 528 S. 13th St. would be turned into a duplex. If neighbors read about this at that time and were bracing themselves to endure some construction noise, they had quite the wait on their hands. It took nearly eighteen months for developer Ling Zhang to break ground on this project, but it has finally happened.

Hole in the ground

It’s possible that part of the holdup was an effort to make a small change to the plans after they were already approved. The owner decided to add glass block windows to the southern side of the new building, and had to go a somewhat involved process to make this change. Now, with the changes apparently approved, architect Subhas Mazumdar’s design will soon rise at this address.

The apartments will each check in at a little over a thousand square feet, and we’re guessing they’ll be condos, based on the location. With a new park just a few blocks to the south, the hustle and bustle of “Midtown Village” a few blocks to the north, and the continually growing South Street West immediately to the, uh, west, this is certainly a desirable spot to live. Now, if only the gentleman who sold this property to Mr. Zhang would sell off another one of his buildings around the corner…

Ugh

What, are we asking too much here?
