A few months ago, we broke the news that a new froyo place would be opening its doors at the corner of 20th & Brandywine. According to their Facebook page, they opened up at the end of May, though we confess we haven’t made it over there as of yet. When we do, we’ll have to try some frozen yogurt, cotton candy, or perhaps some macaroons.
Whether it was inspired by the appearance of this new store or it’s simply a coincidence, it seems that the commercial juices are flowing in this general area. On the other side of 20th Street, a new hair salon opened just a few weeks ago. Hair Rebels specializes in haircuts for men, and represents a nice addition to the neighborhood. Also of note is that they’ve opened in a retail space that’s not on the corner. So look out for them!
And coming soon is a new location for South Philly’s Potito’s Bakery, just to the south of these two storefronts. You may recall, Potito’s opened a downtown location at 1315 Walnut St. earlier this year, and with this additional spot they’re showing a strong desire to spread their cannoli goodness all over town. We’d guess that they’ll be doing their baking offsite in South Philly, and will just be hawking their wares in this little space on 20th Street.
Just south of here on the corner of Monterey Street, another retail space that formerly was home to a Gymboree is now for rent. What would people like to see open here?
