Last fall, we told you about plans for a new bar/restaurant to come to 1318 Chestnut St., former home of Mitchell and Ness. Well, it’s been a couple of months now since Brü opened their doors in this space, but we confess we don’t find ourselves in this neighborhood very often so it was only a few days ago that we actually had the chance to check it out in person.

The new Brü

We didn’t sit down for a meal or even a drink. We just walked in the front door on Chestnut and out the back door on Drury Street. But the German-themed menu looked tasty, the beer list looked thorough, and the aesthetics of the space looked terrific. And we hear that they’ve been pretty busy since they opened, so folks are apparently taking notice.

Looking to the east

Whether this success will translate into some of the vacant commercial spaces on the block getting occupied sooner rather than later remains to be seen, but we can certainly hope, right?
