Over the summer, we told you about a new home replacing a vacant lot at 16th & Green Sts., one of the largest new construction single family homes we could recall ever hearing about. Clocking in at over 8,000 sqft, the home will include 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, a roof deck, two terraces, a penthouse with a wet bar, and elevator, and two-car parking. Oh, and a theater room, a gym/spa room, and a swimming pool. Because you know, why not?
The home has been framed out, and looks gigantic as you pass by.
The home was previously listed for sale on the MetroImpact site for $1.7M, though this has been removed. According to this thread on Philadelphia Speaks, the builder says that he will live in this urban palace. Good for him!
We just don’t see new homes like this get built these days. The house is a real throwback to the types of homes that were built in this neighborhood a hundred years ago, and have for the most part, been chopped up into multiple apartments in the intervening years. Hopefully, this won’t be the fate of this home in the decades to come.
We’ll keep an eye on this enormous abode and will update you again as it approches completion.
