In the winter of 2008, 709 S 6th St. pretty much exploded, according to this news report from 6ABC. A gas leak was the suspected cause of the collapse, which resulted in a shower of debris coating the street and damage to several neighboring homes. Within a year and a half of its untimely demise, the home was rebuilt. The property next door, which we suspect was damaged by the explosion and had to be torn down as a result, not so much.
Finally, there’s a new home going up at 707 S. 6th St., which has been a vacant lot for over three years. According to the construction permit, the home will be three stories high and will include a garage. There’s a fence on the site, now, mostly blocking the view of the construction site. Peeking through a little hole in the fence, we noticed that framing is underway.
By the time this home is finished, the residents shouldn’t have to walk too far to grab dinner and an adult beverage. From the looks of things, it won’t be long until Bainbridge Street Barrel House is up and running. Thinking about it kind of makes us thirsty…
