Fret not Queen Village, for pizza has returned.

Village Kitchen has recently opened at 825 S. 4th St. in the space previously occupied by Queen Village Pizza. While some may be disappointed to see a pizza joint take the place of a pizza joint, Village Kitchen at least has a brand new kitchen, brand new windows, a fresh paint job and better lighting. Oh, and much better signage as well.

New look

From a distance (this photo looks blue and green)

The old Queen Village Pizza closed last fall and plywood quickly went up over the windows, leaving us here at Naked Philly to openly speculate about what was coming.

Renovations just wrapped up a couple of weeks ago, with one of the most positive improvements being the removal of hideous shingled awnings that hovered outside the building. The awnings were also removed from the adjacent residential buildings further south on 4th Street, which are currently being spruced up as well. (The awnings still loom over the buildings across the street, however.) Kudos to the Shipon family, which owns several buildings in the vicinity, for making an effort to make these properties look quite a bit better.

So, from a purely aesthetic perspective Village Kitchen is a huge improvement over its previous tenant.

We’ll have to order a pie before we can say any more.
