Last week, the the Cooking Channel celebrated its 2nd birthday at Reading Terminal Market. The “feastivities” were part of the Cooking Channel Summer Eats Tour. Gerry “G.” Garvin of Roadtrip with G. Garvin and Eden Grinshpan of Eden Eats were the hosts, and the duo signed autographs for locals while promoting their new shows, scheduled to air later this summer.
Not only did the Cooking Channel pull out all of the stops, with free admission for guests that included tasty local bites and brews, live music, and fun giveaways, but it picked the best location in Philadelphia to host this food inspired event.
We reached out to try to get the scoop on why Reading Terminal was chosen and what new food happenings to expect in the near future. While we cannot say for sure, we imagine this location was an easy choice since it debuted its newly renovated community space a few months ago. We thought the “beer garden” style seating area and new stage were a perfect complement to the evening. Bite size fish tacos, watermelon feta salad and Philly cheesesteaks shot out of the new sports bar, Molly Malloy’s.
Other additions include La Cucina, a demonstration kitchen, and larger bathrooms (a much needed enhancement, we’d say). On deck in the south east corner of the historic market, are Tubby Oil, Wursthaus Schmitz and the Head Nut. While the renovation process is not over just yet, the folks from the Market stated the transformation was part of its initiative to enhance the customer experience, bring in outside events and host community gatherings.
When we caught up with G. and Eden toward the end of the night, we asked them about their favorite Philly food finds. G. proclaimed his love for the lobster roll at the Sansom Street Oyster House. Eden, a newbie to Philadelphia, admitted her schedule didn’t allow her much time to roam the city. But in her new show, Eden’s Eats, she’s sent all of the country to uncover immigrant neighborhoods and reveal their native cuisine. Next season, Eden could be coming to Philadelphia. Which ethnic eatery do you think she should visit in our city? Other than Hardena, obviously.
We’ll be sure to send your feedback to the Cooking Channel.
