What many readers have asked us about at 17th and Walnut (a great corner that has been under construction for some time) is actually a now-gutted part of the Latham Hotel, the former home of the founder of Bucknell University, William Bucknell, at 135 South 17th Street. We asked the two men working there for more information, and they politely told us the hotel was getting “newer.” Newer? More modern? “No. Nothing too different.” We used our little Google-wizard paws to find out that “nothing too different”  is actually a multi-million dollar renovation that will include a complete renovation of the 138 guestrooms, lobby and restaurant. Ocean Properties Ltd is the company behind the money and the hotel, and its plans for the hotel include very contemporary and modern features. The project was scheduled to be completed in June of 2011, but, from what we can see, those two lonely workers better find some worker friends if they want to hit that deadline. —Caitlin Connors
