Fork & Barrel owners will be taking over Joe Pesce at 1113 Walnut Street with a new restaurant named The Grainery. The concept for the restaurant is going to be a mix between Fork & Barrel and Bethlehem’s Bookstore Speakeasy and is being tagged as a “sort-of brewpub.” The restaurant will be bringing in brew master Terry Hawbacker from Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport to concoct approximately four house-brewed beers to put on tap.
Walnut Street is a huge attraction in Center City, not just for tourists but locals as well, so keeping up with local competitors will be both difficult and incredibly important. Both Irish Pub and Moriarty’s are on the same block, making competition tight.
With plans for more than 24 craft beers on tap, as well as an extensive list of Victorian-style cocktails being shaken up by Damon Dyer (a mixologist from NYC), The Grainery is set to open in April and it sounds as though it will be making a huge impact on the local bar scene.
