As of January 3rd it is official: Rittenhouse Square won the vote to get the Wine School of Philadelphia’s sole location. The old Fairmount location at 2006 and 2008 Fairmount Avenue will be available as of March 31st and the official new address for the home of Keith Wallace will be the 2,420-square-foot space at 127 S. 22nd Street. According to Wallace, the Wine School “added about 10,000 restaurant-going customers to Fairmount annually” in addition to the $7K or so it contributed to local charities and schools, so we hope Fairmount can get a few new tenants to keep the foot traffic up there. Wallace claims its tiff with Philly Flavors (read it here) isn’t the reason for the move and only has positive things to say about the neighborhood on the Philadelphia Speaks forum.
The new location has great vertical window space (see photo), but seems to be in a weird location. I mean, Smile Café? Really?
