The timeline of the Spring Arts Point development reflects the vision of a developer that has taken the long view. The first phase of homes in this development went up over seven years ago, and foundations were poured for another series of homes. Then the economy crashed, which led to a period that large-scale development seemed to take a snooze. As the lights have come back on in recent years, so too has the Spring Arts Point project come back to life. Two years ago, three homes sprung up on the 900 block of Mount Vernon Street. Eventually, six more homes joined them. Interestingly, the developer decided to make each group of three homes a little different architecturally from those built previously.
A recent reader tip made us appreciate that we haven't been by this area in recent months. When we made our way there over the weekend, we discovered that the next round of homes, this time on the north side of the 900 block of Green Street, are well on their way to completion. They resemble the first homes of Phase Two, but are still their own thing.
Directly across the street, a conversion of a former venetian blind warehouse into multiple residences appears to be finishing up at last. This project has taken over two years from start to finish.
The takeway here is that this part of the West Poplar/Spring Arts neighborhood is chugging along like never before. And when that pesky Reading Viaduct Park finally appears, expect the momentum to pick up even more.
